WHAT: Art Hop Group Exhibition of Halloween-themed artwork

WHERE: Colligo Studio, 1416 Broadway Street, Ste 01, Fresno, CA 93721

Central Valley artists are invited to share their most horrific artwork at Colligo Studio. "Cute" creations are welcome as long as it is Halloween-related (funny, pumpkins, candles, etc).

Artwork must have been completed within the past 2 years ( 2009-2011)  and can be entered even if it was previously exhibited or/and awarded.
Only original work (no printed material) can be submitted. 

Media accepted: include but not limited to oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, ink, multimedia. 
One-of-a-kind small sculptures, jewelry, clothing, and merchandise are  welcome, no bigger than 20” x 20”. No mass production or retail items.
No photographs.

Even if you used reference pictures the artwork must have been created  by you only. For example, you can turn “American Gothic” into a scary  painting, but cannot simply copy the movie poster of “A nightmare on Elm  Street 3”. You cannot just duplicate an action figure from a movie but  sculpt your own version of a character. Please respect the creator’s  work and copyrights law!

Artwork must be scary or horrific but  not offensive, aggressive, degrading, or disgracing (include but not  limited to gore, racism, anti-Semitism, slavery, pornography, pedophily,  sadomasochism, etc.)

Up to 5 pieces per artists. Due to space  limitation, Colligo Studio has the final decision about accepting or not  your work and reserves the right to display less than 5 pieces.

FREE to exhibit. However, all the artwork submitted must be for sale.  Colligo Studio will take a 20% commission on all related sales (before  tax).

This workshop is only an introduction to realistic portraiture: the  basics of drawing and the use of oil paint will be taught to complete a  good portrait within a a time frame of a few hours.

DATE & TIME:
Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 9:30am to 2:30pm with a break for lunch (not provided.

LOCATION:

Fresno, CA(Tower District, Fruit @ Clinton)

 
COST:
$120.00. A non-refundable deposit of 25% will get you registered. The total balance is due 2 weeks before the workshop.

REQUIREMENT:
Experience drawing from life is strongly recommended.

PROGRAM:
Class is limited to 6 students to give individual attention.

. workshop focuses on realistic portraiture (style, approach, materiel, technique, color theory) 
. lecture on drawing: anatomy, proportion, light & shadow
. demo and work from life with a model
. painting in "Alla Prima" style (direct painting, wet-on-wet) so painting can be completed by the end of the workshop.

I will paint as I teach, to be completely involved in the painting process with the students.

From April 26, 2011 art lessons with me will be held on the last Tuesday of every month at Colligo Studio. Of course, other days can be scheduled at any other location.

Private lessons are also offered into your home in the Fresno/Clovis area. Outside this area, additional fees for traveling will apply.

Lessons for minors will be held only with the presence of a parent/legal guardian and at their home or favorite location.

Adults: $25 / hour  - $20 / hour for a minimum of 2 hours

Group (from 2 persons): $15 per person / hour

Children & Teenager: $20 per person / hour - $15 / hour for a minimum of 2 hours

Once in while (if not every month), in addition to my paintings and photographs, the studio will feature another artist/crafter. 

This month of January, please come meet Karen English from Suku Jewelry Designs, in Madera, California. 

Karen has been making jewelry,  thinking about jewelry and involved in jewelry business for the past  three years. Her magnificent and one-of-a-kind handmade pieces (with  natural earthstones, crystals shells,recycled and ocean glass) are the  perfect personal adornment that complements the unique persons who wears  them.

Flashback:

It all of sudden started at the end of November. I had never been so busy for the longest time with 2 drawings and 3 oil paintings to complete in December. I just finished the last oil piece yesterday and I thought it was time to share while it dries.

Jim  found me through the Fresno Arts Council and commissioned this drawing  as a gift for his fiancé Jennifer for Christmas.  I only had to add  Honey (the labrador) behind Jennifer and the two dogs.

Alex had been looking for a long time for an artist. He gave me a 4" x 6" photo of his grandparents that I turned into a 11" x 14" oil painting.

This year, Christmas came early for us with the lease (on November 22, 2010) then the opening reception (for Art Hop on December 2) of our long awaited studio.
